It all started after a weekend of indulgence — a whirlwind of pizza, donuts, and beer that left me feeling bloated and lethargic. By Sunday night, I had consumed around 7,500 calories, a staggering amount that was just the latest in months of overindulgence. This wasn’t an isolated incident; it was the culmination of a pattern that had taken a serious toll on my health.

Physically, I was falling apart. I suffered from chronic constipation, relentless itching on my lower extremities, and dry, flaky skin. My weight had nearly doubled from what it was in my twenties, and I was a far cry from the fit, energetic person I used to be. Even simple tasks like jogging to catch a green light had become monumental challenges.

While changing my diet seemed like an obvious solution, I felt I needed something more profound — a complete reset. Fasting, a practice revered in ancient medicine and recommended by European medical schools for centuries, seemed like the answer.

I knew my lifestyle was the culprit. In today’s world, we eat too often and rarely give our bodies a break. Prolonged periods of eating combined with high-calorie diets and sedentary habits wreak havoc on our metabolism, leading to rising rates of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and dementia.
